COPYRIGHT & LICENSING

Q: Do we need a special license to livestream music?

In most cases, yes. If you’re already securing performance rights, adding a livestream license is usually
just one or two extra steps.

Q: How do we get those rights?

It depends on what you’re performing:

  • Concert music: Check with your music publisher (Hal Leonard, Alfred, etc.) about adding a livestream license.
  • Stage musicals: Agencies like MTI and Concord Theatricals offer simple streaming add-ons when you apply to perform the show.

Q: We’re a school or nonprofit. Does that help?

Yes! Most publishers offer discounted or simplified streaming licenses for educational and nonprofit groups.

Q: Can Good Sound get the licenses for us?

We don’t automatically handle licensing, but we’re happy to help guide you through the process. For an additional
fee, we can assist in contacting rights holders and advising you on the exact steps.

Q: What happens if we don’t get the rights?

Without the proper licensing, we cannot legally livestream or distribute the performance. However, recording for
archival or internal use may still be possible depending on your situation.

Q: Where can we learn more about music licensing?
